Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is a therapeutic adaptive exercise program which focuses on stretching and breath work. Chair yoga reduces the strain on joints and muscles, which allows someone who is unable to stand for traditional yoga an opportunity to practice. Modified chair yoga poses can help seniors and people with chronic pain or limited mobility improve their quality of life and may help lower blood pressure, improve sleep patterns and manage depression. Every BODY can reap the benefits of Chair Yoga!

About Erin

I am a registered Dietitian, with a degree from NDSU in Food and Nutrition.  My passion growing up was dance, where I learned to appreciate the strength and grace of the human body.  Wanting to continue my pursuit of learning how to nourish the body from the inside out, I became a certified group fitness instructor with a desire to help others pursue their journey in health and wellness. I am currently studying yoga to achieve my 200 RYT through YogaFit Studios.  My goal is to help others find their balance in life through movement and positive energy.

Class Descriptions:

MIXED YOGA

Based on the Vinyasa and Hatha method, this practice connects breath with movement and blends balance, strength and flexibility in a format appropriate for the beginner and intermediate yogi.


MAT PILATES

This class focuses on developing core  strength, flexibility, balance and stamina. Exercises are instructed at  multiple levels which allows students to choose to work at a beginning,  intermediate, or advanced pace. 



SENIOR FITNESS

 A fun and upbeat class for the actively aging adult or those with physical limitations that works to increase muscle strength, range of movement and improve activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. Class can be modified depending on fitness levels.

For many people, and particularly women, the pelvic  floor isn't functioning as well as it should be. This is particularly  true for women after childbirth. There is no need to be embarrassed or  ashamed of a week pelvic floor, especially if you have a pelvic floor  disorder. However, although pelvic floor weakness and disorders are  common, this doesn’t mean they are un-treatable or unavoidable! Proper  exercise can lower the risk of pelvic floor disorders and even reverse  effects. You will learn what exercises to use regularly to strengthen  your pelvic muscles, and keep every part of your body strong and  healthy! 

  • Learn how the back, hips and abdominals work together. And, how core muscle imbalance can cause long-term problems for the pelvis, lower back and pelvic floor.
  • Find and feel your core abdominal muscles
  • Activate your deep abdominal and pelvic core muscles
  • Start your core strengthening exercises using the correct technique
  • Stabilize your core to help resolve lower back and pelvic problems.
  • Exercises specific to your weak areas
  • 9 plus pages information and exercises with pictures and descriptions for you to take home and practice
  • Personalized movements to correct your specific imbalances

 This is a 45 minute class is designed to strengthen and stretch your core muscles that are the foundation to all your movement. Please bring your yoga mat and be prepared to enhance your fitness routine.  Any level fitness will be challenged in this class with modifications offered.

About Sharlene

  

Sharlene has been teaching yoga for 15 years and practicing yoga for 20 years. She has a degree in Social Work and has a Masters in Counseling. Throughout her journey as an instructor, Sharlene has taught  various populations of students: cancer patients, addiction rehabilitation, college students, general public classes at fitness facilities, mental health patients, and seniors.

Sundays: 4:30pm    Restorative Yoga for Grief and Anxiety

RESTORATIVE YOGA FOR GRIEF AND ANXIETY  

Sharlene is excited to offer a Yoga class aimed at dealing with anxiety and grief. This class would be perfect for people of all ages and fitness levels. It is a calming routine that will restore a sense of inner peace and well-being for those especially who are experiencing grief, feeling edgy, angry, moody or scattered.


We will also be working on strength, flexibility, agility and balance while learning breathing techniques for cleansing, energy and relieving anxiety. Above all it will be enjoyable and healing!
